BlackBox HOLO is the latest iteration of BlackBox design for high-quality scanning of 35mm and MEDIUM FORMAT film at home using a DSLR or a mirrorless camera.
BlackBox HOLO includes everything you need to start scanning:
- interchangeable HOLO film guides: 6x9, 6x6, 35mm
- high-quality light panel CS-LITE from CineStill
- 5 spacers for adjustment of the distance between the film and the lens
- lens mount with a set of step-up rings to match virtually any lens
Key features of BlackBox Holo
1. High-quality light source
BlackBox HOLO comes with a light panel CineStill CS-LITE. It is a high-quality light source designed specifically for film scanning. It features a Color Rendering Index CRI=95+ and a brightness of EV 15+. The CS-LITE has a unique capability to adjust color temperatures, ensuring optimal lighting for various types of film, including color negative, color positive, and black and white. These adjustments are made using the built-in remote control. The CS-LITE can be powered by any USB-A power source or power bank.
2. Perfect masking and alignment by design
BlackBox HOLO is built from high-density PLA and ABS components for maximum stability. Its functional design is created with one purpose - to always hold your camera perfectly parallel to the film plane while completely masking it from ambient light. In contrast to other setups, the system doesn’t need leveling, masking, or alignment. Ever.
3. Film transport system.
In contrast to other BlackBox models, HOLO uses manual film guides. It allows the scanning of uncut rolls of film as well as film stripes. To ensure perfect film tension, flatten the film, and protect it from scratches, every HOLO film guide has a velvet coating inside the film channel. Velvet coating also cleans the film making dust and fingerprints a problem of the past.
4. Adjustable height
BlackBox HOLO comes with 5 spacers for height extension: 20mm, 30mm, 40mm, 100mm, and 150mm. The spacers connect using a bayonet lock (insert and twist). They can be combined in any combination to match the minimum focal distance of your macro lens. Spacers adjust the distance between your lens and the film plane from 30mm to 340mm. It makes BlackBox HOLO compatible with lenses up to 135mm focal length when scanning 6x9 format using a full-frame camera. Additional extension sections are available by request.
5. Compatible lenses
Your lens is mounted and locked on top of the BlackBox HOLO using the filter thread. Any lens with a filter thread diameter of 77mm, 72mm, 67mm, 62mm, 58mm, 55mm, 52mm, 49mm, or 37mm is compatible. Lens lock ensures the stability of the system even with heavy cameras.
